First Edition Signed
Softcover. Condition: Near fine. Uncorrected Proof. Octavo, 214pp. A near fine copy in the publisher's printed wraps, gently sunned on the spine. Uncommon proof format of this final novel by Robertson. Though he lived for another decade, Robertson suffered a stroke a few months before publication. The previous owner of this book, an acquaintance and admirer of Robertson, visited him in the hospital and obtained an inscription, which reads: "For George ___ Love, D. Robertson (in extremis)." The inscription is nearly illegible, but the previous owner has helpfully provided a transcription. Naturally uncommon signed. Don Robertson was a Cleveland author who earned national notoriety for his epic novel "Paradise Falls," as well as the Morris Bird III novels (The Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread, etc.). His first three novels were historical fiction about the Civil War, and this final effort was a return to that tradition. Robertson developed a further following after Stephen King pointed to him as one of his major influences, and called him one of his favorite writers. King published Robertson's 1987 novel "The Ideal, Genuine Man" under his Philtrum Press imprint.
