Book First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Stated First Edition. Illustrated with full-color photographs. Signed and inscribed on the red first front end paper: '5/2/92, To Fred, with best wishes, Peter Lourie.' The green covers are exceptionally clean. I don't see any soiling. The gilt lettering on the spine is nicely bright. The cover edges and corners are in excellent shape. The page edges look very clean. The book is square and the spine is straight. The binding is very solid from cover to cover with nicely tight pages and nicely tight covers as well. The pages are very clean. Again, I don't see any soiling. They are also nicely bright. I don't see any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. The dust jacket can be seen in the first few photos. I don't see any soiling. There isn't any conspicuous wear, no tears. The white flaps are very clean, again no wear to be seen. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. It will be fitted with a protective cover after the photos are taken. From the dust jacket: 'Born as a mountain brook , the Hudson River courses through dangerous rapids and waterfalls in a dramatic plunge of 4000 feet. Then, remarkably, the river slows and widens, becoming over the next 154 miles a massive arm of the sea, with saltwater and powerful tides. One summer, Peter Lourie set out to explore the extraordinary River by doing what no one had ever done: he canoed the entire 315-mile Hudson, from its source in the Adirondack Mountains to its mouth at the southern tip of Manhattan, where it meets the Atlantic. This exciting day-by-day account of Lourie's journey, complete with full-color photographs, gives young readers the feel of shooting wilderness whitewater, gliding through the fjordlike Hudson Highlands, and, finally, plying the ocean shipping lanes off Manhattan's shore. Far more than a canoeing adventure, this book paints a vivid portrait of a river that is the nation's treasure.'. Inscribed by Author(s).
