Madison, Wis.: Tamarack Press, 1977, stated First Printing, 143pp., . Nice black and white drawings throughout, with a section of eight watercolors. - Allen Strang was born and raised in Richland Center, Wisconsin. He received his degree in architecture from the University of Pennsyl vania. After winning a scholarship to study in Europe for a year and working with a Phila-delphia architect for two years, he returned to Wisconsin to practice architecture. He was a founder of Strang Partners, Incorporated, a Madison architectural firm, and served as chairman of the board of directors until his recent retirement. Strang is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and a past president of the Wisconsin Chapter of the AIA. Among the noteworthy build ings designed under his direction are hospitals in Madison, Ashland, and Reedsburg; Madison head- quarters for Ohio Medical Products and Wisconsin Life Insurance Company; Harry Steenbock Library, Kurt F. Wendt Library, and Memorial Union South, on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus; and numerous schools, churches, businesses, and residences. Though he is experienced at watercolor and pencil rendering, this is the first time Strang s illustrations have appeared in a book. Strang and his wife, Alice, live in Madison, Wiscon-sin. They have two children and six grandchildren. // Jerry Apps was born and raised on a farm near Wild Rose, Wisconsin, where he experi enced firsthand many of the things discussed in this book. He graduated from the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences of the University of Wisconsin- Madison, worked several years as a county exten sion agent in Green Lake and Brown counties, and served as assistant state 4-H leader for Wisconsin. In 1965 he returned to the University of Wisconsin and completed a Ph.D. in adult education. Currently, he is a professor of adult education at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Apps has had a long interest in writing and the teaching of writing about rural America. For six years he taught article writing at the Upper Middle West Laboratories of the Arts (formerly the Rhinelander School of Arts). For ten years he wrote a weekly newspaper column about outdoor appreciation that appeared in the Waushara Argus, the New London Press-Star, and the Central Wisconsin Resorter. He has edited a professional journal and currently serves as consulting editor to the McGraw-Hill Book Company.
