Includes black and white photo reproductions, and diagrams. No dust jacket. In this book, substandard refers to standards smaller than 35 mm film, specifically 16 mm and 9.5 mm. Occasional unobtrusive highlighting crosses (X) in margins and short underlinings in text, all in pencil and easily erased. VERY GOOD copy.

The text is illustrated with black-and-white photographs and black-and-white illustrations. 1/4 dark red coloured cloth backstrip and 3/4 bone coloured panels with black coloured titles to the front panel. Inserted loosely is a colour card chart showing the set out of a typewriter keyboard. A book for learning to type on a manual typewriter, for business typist. There is no readily available publication date, but given the illustrations, styles of typewriters and photographs 1920s-1930s. At the rear of the book there are various makes of typewriter, then available, and showing their various parts. Typewriters displayed are:  Underwood, Remington, Royal, Imperial (model number 50) and Bar-Lock (model number 18). Creasing to the book corners and a little fraying of the backstrip edges. The book board show foxing, marks, rubs, and scoring. Light browning to the textblock edges and internal text. A previous owner has placed blue coloured pencil ticks to some of the internal text.
