Hard Cover in Dust Jacket. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First Edition, First Printing. A clean, fresh and nice first printing. An increasingly uncommon first edition in collector's condition. Remainder mark. Rod McKuen, a humanitarian and people's poet was very popular in the 60's, 70's and 80's. To his avid readers (including myself), today he is still extremely popular. He is also known as a composer, lecturer, and performer. As recipient of the 1978 Carl Sandburg Award, he was acclaimed "The People's Poet" because he has made poetry a part of so many people's lives. Just ask any fan why they love Rod McKuen's poetry and willingly they will probably share with you a warm, tender story of how his words or songs led them out of the dark and into the light. Gave them company when they were alone. Made them strong instead of weak. Or they may tell you how his poems comforted them during the break-up of a love affair. Or how his words and music taught them to love again. McKuen's books, as of 1981, have sold in excess of 33 million copies. His books numbering more than forty titles, have been translated into some thirty languages and make him the best-selling, most widely read poet of his time. Rod McKuen is the recipient of the Carl Sandburg and Walt Whitman Awards for outstanding achievement in poetry, and the Brandeis University Literary Trust Award for continuing excellence and contributions to contemporary poetry. Among the many other awards, Rod has received are the Freedoms Foundation Medal of Honor, the First Amendment Society Man of the Year Award, the University of Detroit Humanitarian Award, the Horatio Alger Award, and the Man of the Year Citation from the Menninger Foundation. On top of all that, he has a couple of Academy Award nominations to his credit.
