Inspiration for the 1925 silent Western film directed by George B. Seitz and starring Richard Dix and Lois Wilson, and remade as a 1955 film starring Scott Brady and Audrey Totter. Originally serialized in Ladies' Home Journal in 1922. The release of the story in book form was delayed when Christian missionaries protested the film's depiction of forceful conversion of Native Americans to Christianity.
