First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: very good. First Edition. First printing of the English translation version, folio size, with original dust jacket. The first printing of this work in the English translation, originally published in 1964 by Libraire Plon. A delightful introduction to French dessert cooking, each menu is presented first in French with four-colour illustrations on the menu page as well as on the page opposite, these followed by the same recipe in English with the illustrations in red only; the front board (and jacket panel) in French, the back board (and jacket panel) in English. A bit uncommon in the online marketplace and a work that deserves not to be forgotten, the artwork mostly in primary colours which harken back to the sixties. ___DESCRIPTION: Illustrated paper over boards, decorated endpapers, the French title page first (in four colours) followed by the English title page (red only), stated "First Printing" on the copyright page, a page of very helpful notes, the Contents lists forty-three recipes (please note that the book is not pagainated); folio size (12 3/4" by 10"), unpaginated. The dust jacket with the original price of $6.95, the design mirrors the book and is as described above. ___CONDITION: Volume very good, with clean boards, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; exterior wear at the head and tail of spine and corners, and a prior owner initially began to cut out a design for "a 'standard ' French measuring cup" as directed on that page (but stopped after three short cuts along the design edge, clearly having found their senses). The dust jacket also very good, not price-clipped, with light overall soil and edgewear including a square chip out of the head of the spine (approx. 3/4" long and the width of the spine) and some small loss at the tail, the prior owner affixed two short pieces of cello tape to the jacket verso. ___POSTAGE: Please note that this is an unusually large and heavy volume and additional postage may apply; please inquire for details. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell. Please contact us with any questions you may have, we are here to help.
