Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. Hardcover. Black paper-covered boards with title stamped in gray on cover and on black cloth-covered spine, with heavy translucent dust jacket printed with title in white on front and spine. Photographs by Ken Ohara. Essay by Craig Nova. Designed by Ken Ohara and Jack Woody. 144 pp., with 133 duotone plates. 10-1/4 x 8-3/8 inches. This first was edition limited to 2000 hardbound copies. New in publisher's shrink-wrap. From the publisher: "Ken Ohara's photographic series of one-hour exposure portraits create in their final form a new identity for each subject. The traditional evaluations we make of a portrait, i.e. 'How do you look?' are lost in the blur of a passing hour. The soft outlines of heads and bodies take on a new power in their loss of detail, and we look to the objects that frame each sitter to give us a context for identity. Like Meatyard before him, Ohara's collective subjects create a wry and melancholy portrait of the absent artist.".

First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: vg. Limited First edition. 31/50. Quarto (10 1/4 x 8 1/4"). Unpaginated. [148]pp. Original half black cloth over black paper covered boards, with gray lettering to cover and spine. Book housed in its 11 1/2 x 9 1/4" black cloth clamshell box, with gray lettering to spine. Laid in, a matted 9 3/4 x 8" original photograph signed at verso by Ken Ohara. Colophon page numbered (31/50), hand-signed by the photographer, and dated 9/18/2006. Laid in, publisher's printed insert "This Limited Edition book has been autographed for our customer by the artist. Thank you for your order," hand-numbered (31/50) and annotated "Female." "With" by Ken Ohara features a photographic series of one-hour exposure portraits which challenges the concept of traditional portrait appearances and evaluative processes. Through the 133 duotone portraits contained in this book, identity is fuzzed and lost, context boundaries are blurred, and observers are pushed into forming new frames of reference and new points for creating impressions of identity. The soft outlines of heads and bodies take on a new power in their loss of detail, and we look to the objects that frame each sitter to give us a context for identity. This copy is from an edition of 50, laid into a clamshell box, with a choice from two original prints (either Male or Female) numbered and signed by the artist. The original photograph is from the Female series, and is the forty-seventh portrait featured in the book (8:28pm - 9:28pm). Clamshell box, binding, interior and original photograph in fine condition.
