Prima ed unica rarissima edizione italiana, un solo esemplare censito in ICCU, di questo scritto del celebre militare e uomo politico francese Emmanuel Henri Louis Alexandre de Launay, meglio noto come conte di Antraigues (Montpellier, 25 dicembre 1753 - Londra, 22 luglio 1812). Il luogo di stampa presunto individuato in Ferrara si ricava da L. PINGAUD, Un agent secret sous la révolution et l'empire. Le comte d'Antraigues. Paris, 1893, 394. Il titolo originale dell'opera invece "Point d'accommodement. 5. éd. Paris, 1791" da A. MARTIN - G. WALTER, Catalogue général de l'histoire de la Révolution française. Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, 1939-1969, I, 27. L'opera è una disamina degli sviluppi politici francesi, visti dall'interno della Francia da una voce critica nei riguardi della Rivoluzione. L'opera venne stampata anonima anche in Italia per preservare sia l'editore che l'autore da possibili ritorsioni. L'autore fu una delle figure più note del partito realista nel corso della Rivoluzione e del Primo Impero. Si crede che fu anche una spia prima dei Russi, poi degli Inglesi. Fu protagonista di un celebre caso diplomatico dopo la sua cattura nel 1797 a Venezia ed un interrogatorio nel quale fu direttamente sottoposto da Napoleone e che portò al così detto colpo di Stato del 18 Fruttidoro nel quale venne definitivamente sgominata la fazione dei Realisti. A Venezia dove si trovava seguito dell'ambasciatore Russo si spostò verso l'Austria all'arrivo delle truppe napoleoniche nel 1797. Venne catturato pochi giorni dopo aver abbandonato Venezia sulla strada per Trieste. Portato a Milano venne interrogato direttamente da Napoleone. A seguito di questo interrogatorio nel quale sembra (ma ancora oggi vi sono dubbi al riguardo) vennero rinvenuti documenti compromettenti per la fazione realista che portarono al così detto colpo di stato del 18 Termidoro durante il quale la fazione realista venne spazzata via. Quello che si sa è che d'Antraigues venne in maniera del tutto imprevedibile liberato dalla prigionia milanese forse per aver parlato e consegnato i documenti o forse per una diabolica mossa di Napoleone per portar scompiglio nelle fila del partito realista. Seguirono ulteriori strani avvenimenti. Prima d'Antraigues si rifugiò in Austria, poi venne licenziato da Luigi XVIII, verso il quale pubblicò diversi scritti ed articoli polemici, poi passò sotto la protezione dello Zar di Russia. Infine si diresse in Inghilterra e passò al servizio del Governo Inglese ma venne assassinato nella sua abitazione, con tutta la sua famiglia, nel 1812. Prima ed unica rarissima edizione italiana. Testo basilare per la storia degli inizi delle Rivoluzione Francese.

Couverture souple. Condition: Très bon. Edition originale. In-8° broché relié par une cordelette en état de parution, non rogné, 36 pages. Ce texte légendaire est considéré comme étant le premier à voir dans le Tiers état la « nation ». Il est fort rare car confisqué et détruit par le pouvoir Royal quelques mois avant les débuts de la Révolution. Dans un passage célèbre, il écrit : « Le Tiers état est le Peuple et le Peuple est le fondement de l'État ; il est en fait l'État lui-même. C'est dans le Peuple que réside tout le pouvoir d'une nation et c'est pour le Peuple qu'existent tous les états. » Plus loin, il renie dans un style brûlant sa propre classe : «La noblesse héréditaire est le plus grand fléau que Dieu, dans sa colère, ait répandu sur les humains. » Pourtant, l'année suivante, c'est cette noblesse honnie qui l'envoie la représenter aux Etats-Généraux. Il s'y montre d'abord révolutionnaire modéré, votant la Déclaration des droits de l'homme, incitant son ordre à renoncer à ses privilèges et participant au Serment du jeu de Paume. Mais la journée du 5 octobre 1789, durant laquelle le peuple de Paris va chercher à Versailles le roi et sa famille, le fait basculer dans l'opposition au régime qui se met en place. Fin 1789, il est dénoncé pour avoir planifié, en compagnie du marquis de Favras, l'évasion du roi et des siens. L'exécution de son complice présumé, en février 1790, le convainc d'émigrer le mois suivant. Il entre alors au service du gouvernement espagnol, pour lequel il remplit quelques missions plus ou moins avouables, mélanges de diplomatie, de journalisme et d'espionnage.
