Blue cloth boards with yellow lettering on cover and spine. Five inch closed tear along front joint; significant scratching and wear with small abrasion to cover; toning to spine. No dust jacket. Binding is somewhat shaken with cracking to some page gutters, no pages are loose. Library marks include black stamps on title page and last page of text, signs of a removed pocket on rear pastedown, and a darkened spot on spine. Includes six color illustrations on plates by "the cowboy artist" Charlie Russell. Frank Bird Linderman (1869-1938), a Montana writer, politician, and advocate for Native Americans, shares a collection of legends he heard from the older men of the Blackfeet, Chippewa, and Cree tribes. The book includes tales such as "Why the Chipmunk's Back is Striped," "How the Ducks Got Their Fine Feathers," and "Why the Mountain-Lion is Long and Lean.".
