This copy has a chip at the edge of the spine (smaller than a dime) where the blue cloth is torn and backing paper is visible. Some bumps to board edges and shelf wear from age. Binding good and tight. Title page dated 1937. Copyright page dated 1937, with an 'A' on the copyright page. 666 pages. Signed and inscribed on the front endpaper, 'To J.M. Evans with the kind regards of Herbert Hoover.' By the time this book was published (1937), Hoover had been out of office for 4 years and the nation was in the grip of the Depression; Hoover had hoped to be nominated for another run at the presidency in 1936, but did not get it. Signature and inscription are in blue/black ink on free endpaper, which itself is toned from age, with some darkening at the inner edge. Measures 6.5 x 9.5 inches. Manspeaker. The two authors of this work served in the cabinet of President Herbert Hoover. They did not set out to write a biography of the former president, rather to lay out the "principles and policies both in philosophy of government and in action" of the Hoover Administration. Ray Lyman Wilbur served as the Secretary of the Interior and became the President of Stanford University. Arthur Mastick Hyde was the Governor of Missouri and became Hoover's Secretary of Agriculture.

Light wear to spine, solid binding. Includes frontispiece portrait of President Hoover. (Tracey, 21) (Burns, 0078) Handwritten description of provenance above signature, dated June, 1933. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: "The Kind Regards of Herbert Hoover." This work was also issued in a limited edition binding by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1933. The limited edition run was individually numbered, with a total of 620 in circulation. They were not signed by President Hoover. After his presidency, Herbert Hoover continued to be a prolific author. Some of his notable works include the following: "The Memoirs of Herbert Hoover: The Great Depression, 1929-1941" (1952), "The Ordeal of Woodrow Wilson" (1958), "An American Epic: The History of the Making of the Hoover Dam" (1963), "Fishing for Funâ "and to Wash Your Soul" (1963) and "The Crusade Years, 1933-1955: Herbert Hoover's Lost Memoir of the New Deal Era and Its Aftermath" (2013, posthumously published) - This book, discovered among Hoover's papers, offers insights into his thoughts on the New Deal and the policies of the Roosevelt administration during the Great Depression.

Lincoln, With the Kind Regards of Herbert Hoover + Hugh Gibson." Edmond E. Lincoln (1888-1958), a Rhodes scholar from Ohio, was a respected economist. He taught at Harvard University, where he developed a reputation as a writer in the field of business economics. His writing was often critical of the federal spending of the Roosevelt years, which likely drew the attention of President Hoover. In the private sector he worked as an economist for DuPont Company.

Sepia toned photograph of Rio de Janeiro coastline. Full piece measures 11.5" x 10." A hint of wear at corners, near fine condition. Residue from previous mounting along upper edge of verso. Inscription reads: "A merry Christmas, rolling up from Rio, - 1928 / Lou Henry Hoover / Herbert Hoover." Herbert Hoover (1874-1964) was elected president with an overwhelming victory over Al Smith of New York in 1928. As president-elect in late 1928, Hoover toured various Latin American countries, including Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Chile, and Argentina. His trip ended in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from December 21-23, where the photo for this Christmas card was taken. Hoover was inaugurated a few months later, March 4, 1929. Lou Henry Hoover (1874-1944) traveled with her husband frequently and made consistent radio broadcasts to the United States in her time as First Lady.

White Jr. (August 6, 1877 - March 31, 1952) was an American politician and lawyer. A member of the Republican Party, he served in the United States Congress from 1917 to 1949, representing the state of Maine. He was elected to the United States Senate in 1931 and was the Senate Majority Leader from 1947 to 1949. Born in Lewiston, Maine, White was a prominent figure in American politics during the first half of the 20th century, participating in significant legislative activities and playing a key role in shaping U.S. domestic and foreign policies during his time in Congress.

The letter contains a humorous response from Hoover saying: "I don't think I can write an obituary hope to a lady that has not yet passed away. Ask Mr. Hall to pass along our joint gratification." Former President Herbert Hoover, often called "the Chief," was Chairman of the Board of the Boys' Clubs of America. The organization, originally founded in 1860, came together to form a national organization in 1906, called the Federated Boys' Clubs. In 1931, they changed their name to the Boys' Clubs of America, and by 1990, they were known as Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The organization continues to help at risk young people with after school programs and mentorship.
