Volland creed.books for children sould contain nothing to cause fright suggest fear, glorify mischief, extenuate malice or condone cruelty. That is why they area called "books good for children". Large green binding with mother goose and three children. Owner inscription front endpaper, few dots on endpapers.
Condition: Good. M.A. Donohue & Company 1915 boards are moderately soiled. binding secure. dust jacket is worn with large chips and tears.

Green cloth with title in silver on the front board, housed in the publisher's green, card stock slipcase, with green illustration on paper label affixed. The slip case has been reinforced at the edges with masking tape. The upper tip of the front board looks to have been lightly gnawed by a small dog. Still a Very Good copy in Good slip case.

This version of a now-classic edition is abridged: it lacks Grover's Foreword, the title poem. & has only 23 full-page plates. Prepared as the most authentic edition of Mother Goose since Mother Goose Melodies were published in Paris in 1697. "No, no, my melodies will never die, / While nurses sing, or babies cry." The first edition had blue cloth with gold stamping; the second edition has silver stamping, probably on green cloth, Illustrated by Frederick RICHARDSON.

Good condition with some rubbing to the corners and spine ends, other somewhat unobtrusive cover wear, good hinges, sound text block, small chip to the bottom margin of the first plate (not affecting the image), a few other pages with closed tears to the lower margins, some affecting the lower area of plates and some with old tape repairs, far majority of pages unaffected, lightly age-toned but clean pages, no names or other markings. Hard Cover. Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

Exterior has faded and stained boards around the edges, but paste on still bright. Bottom tips somewhat rubbed, but other edges/spine ends/tips have only hints of wear. Inside is unmarked, crisp, scattered foxing, modest toning with back hinge stating, but holding nicely. Unpaginated, but 124 by my count.
