Soiling to top and front edges of front cover and all of back cover. Paste down drawing of Native American on front cover is worn. Gold gilt lettering on front cover and spine and top page ends is bright. Staining and yellowing to front and bottom page ends. The hinges of the ffep are taped. Hinge is cracked but still attached. Very nice full page b&w illustrations. Text is yellowed due to age. Otherwise clean and unmarked.The story of a Native American boy detailing his early life, legends, life and adventures, plays and playmates and much more. Phillips were instrumental in establishing the famous Taos Society of Artists. The society was developed to promote the splendor of Taos and the art of the American West to ever greater audiences. In INDIAN BOYHOOD Eastman recalls the 1862 Sioux Uprising in Minnesota that sent his family into exile in Canada. He describes his childhood there, which ended when his father, who had been presumed dead, appeared to take him back to the United States. An Indian boy"s training, child-hood games, harvesting and feasts, legends told around a campfire Eastman relates all aspects of the rich traditional life of the Santee Sioux, which had already passed away by the time this book was published.
