With the volume on the Commodilla catacomb three repertories of the paintings of the Roman catacombs have been so far published. The series was initiated in 1987 with the publication of the catacomb of St. Marcellinus and Peter, followed by the volume on the anonymous catacomb of via Anapo in 1991. All the three repertories follow the same aim and method: all tombs are individually described comprehensively and in detail, drawings and photographs of every single funeral complex are provided, and then a complete updated bibliography of all scientific studies is added. The volume opens with a contribution towards the history and the topography of the cemetery. The cubiculum Leonis with its rich decoration, and the little underground basilica of the saint martyrs Felix and Adauctus with its decoration, and especially with its VIIth century frescoes, attribute to the Commodilla catacomb a particular role in the Roma sotteranea cristiana. 3 volumi rilegati in tela e custodia 3 cloth bound volumes in box I. DECKERS Johannes Georg, SEELIGER Hans Reinhard, sowie MIETKE Gabriele, Die Katakombe Santi Marcellino e Pietro. Marcellino e Pietro in Roma. Few of the roman catacombs, about seventy in number, are as large as the catacombs of St. Marcellinus and Peter, and a few can rival the latter's magnificent paintings. This work provides the first ever detailed description of all the paintings in the St. Marcellinus and Peter catacombs in Rome. 83 line drawings (scale 1:20), which are based for the most parts on a photogrammetric survey, present the entire material in such a way as to give an immediately comprehensive general picture of each tomb. All of the paintings are described in detail in a catalogue, for which all relevant literature since A. Bosio's first Roma sotterranea (1632) was systematically evaluated. The catacomb in fact is the only subterranean part of the late antique cemetery inter duas lauros. It is in this context that a series of detailed introductory articles attempt to describe the complex as a whole, to outline its building and development, as well as its history into the Middle Ages, and consider it in the tight of other complexes.
