Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Flat signed by Robbie Conal on title page. Softcover. Good binding and cover. Shelf wear. Small markings on front end page, else unmarked. *Autographed by author.* "Robbie Conal grew up on the upper west side of Manhattan. Raised by union organizers who considered the major art museums to be day care centers for him, he spent his formative years immersing himself in art history at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the other great local art institutions of New York City. He attended High School of Music and Art, and later received his BFA at San Francisco State University (1969), and his Masters of Fine Arts from Stanford University (1978). In 1986, angered by the Reagan Administration's rabid abuse of political power in the name of representative democracy, he began making satirical oil portraits of politicians and bureaucrats and turning them into street posters. He gradually developed an irregular guerrilla army of volunteers, who helped him poster the streets of major cities around the country. Over the past 24 years, Robbie has made more than 80 street posters satirizing politicians from both political parties, televangelists and global capitalists. He has also taken on subjects like censorship, war, social injustice, and environmental issues." - Artist's Website This is an oversized or heavy book, which requires additional postage for international delivery outside the US. Trade paperback. Condition: Very good. Robbie Conal (Cover art) (illustrator). Presumed First Edition, First printing. [6], iii, [1], 359, [31--Notes and index]. Inscribed on the half title page by the author, Robert Parry. The inscription reads: To Jane--one of my heroes, Bob Parry Oct. 30, 2004. Includes Introduction, as well as chapters on The Wedding; Front Row; Surreptitious Entry; Containing the Secrets; First Interregnum; The First Restoration; The Pieces Arrayed; The Hostage Gambit; Hostage End Game; 'Debunked?'; Where Was George?; The Russian Report; Analyst Obstacles; The Magic Words; War at Home; Moon Rising; Untouchables; Ties That Bind; Moon's Generation Next; Dynastic Succession; Electoral Coup; September 11; To War; and Conclusion: Broken Toys. Robert Parry (June 24, 1949 - January 27, 2018) was an American investigative journalist. He was best known for his role in covering the Iran-Contra affair for the Associated Press (AP) and Newsweek, including breaking the Psychological Operations in Guerrilla Warfare (CIA manual provided to the Nicaraguan contras) and the CIA involvement in Contra cocaine trafficking in the U.S. scandal in 1985. He was awarded the George Polk Award for National Reporting in 1984 and the I.F. Stone Medal for Journalistic Independence by Harvard's Nieman Foundation in 2015. Parry was the editor of ConsortiumNews from 1995 until his death in 2018. The idea of this book was to examine how the two George Bushes intersected with important turning points of recent American history, not just what they did but how the surrounding events affected them, and how they affected the course of the American democratic experiment. While other authors have examined aspects of this extraordinary family dynasty, Robert Perry wanted to take a journalist's eye view of how the Bushes fit into various scandals and other momentous events from Watergate to Iraq. Tracing investigative leads back through three decades, Secrecy & Privilege explores the mystery of how the two George Bushes rose to the pinnacle of American political power -- and what the rise of their dynasty has meant to the nation's democratic principles.

Pictorial Wrappers. Condition: Fine. First Edition. 56pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Designed by Deborah Ross. This is the catalogue published in conjunction with the 1990 Pasadena Armory Center for the Arts retrospective of the work of wry political satirist Robbie Conal. Firmly in the lineage of such 20th Century political artists as John Heartfield, Hans Haacke, and Klaus Staeck, Conal is renowned for his midnight guerrilla postering raids of the Los Angeles urban landscape with such memorable images as "Contra-Diction (Ronald Reagan)" and "It Can't Happen Here (George Bush Sr.)". Other Reagan-era stalwarts skewered here include Nancy Reagan, Henry Kissinger, James Baker, Jesse Helms, Ed Meese, Oliver North, Dan Quayle, John Poindexter, Margaret Thatcher, Jimmy Swaggart, and Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. This reproduces virtually his entire oeuvre of the eighties - both paintings and posters - including documentation of many defaced and in-situ works. A most handsome example additionally SIGNED "Robbie Conal" in black ink on the title page. Signed by the Artist. Artist Monograph.

This copy of Conal's ferocious political satire on the Reagan administration and associated characters has been heavily "revised" by an unsympathetic hand. The covers are over-painted with silver, black and green paint. Conal's name is covered and replaced with "Vanitas." I have just noticed that the front is signed "Nemo" in silver on the silver background. An L.A. Times story about Conal is pasted onto a couple of pages and the rear cover. Complete and in good condition, apart from the "revisions." Eight bound-in postcards feature Reagan, disgraced evangelists Jim & Tammy Bakker, Contra/Cocaine (the "Iran-Contra" scandal), President George Bush, the killing of Black people, segregationist Senator Jesse Helms, and Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist. Laid in is a note reading: "to Jo Anne, for your library!" Signed, possibly, "Jerri," "Jenna," "June," or ? (but not June Wayne). I am fairly certain that "Jo Anne" is the late, talented librarian and writer, Joan Hugo. **Free domestic or international shipping with direct order.

Unbound. Condition: Very Good. No publisher or place: (Los Angeles, 1991). 27 by 15 ½ inches. Glossy paper stock. A pro-abortion poster created by artist Robbie Conal, known for his postering of Los Angeles with art bearing his social commentary. After Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist issued his gag rule which forbade counsellors at federally subsidized planning clinics to refer clients to doctors who performed abortions, a group of women used this poster art (donated by Conal) to protest the ruling by hanging the posters up around Los Angeles. The group included Mary-Jane Wagle, Deanne Shartin and Ellen Levitt, among others. The group began their efforts in January of 1992. Some posters contained words added by the group, "Abortion is still legal. For information call your local family planning clinic." This particular copy does not, and matches a copy held in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. VERY GOOD condition. Minor wrinkling. A few small bumps along the edges.
