Second UK hardback edition of this collection of short stories previously published in hard covers by Rupert Hart-Davis in 1959. Originally published in the US by Doubleday in 1959 under the title A Medicine for Melancholy. There are a few light dents to the bottom edge of the front panel and slight edge wear but the boards are otherwise clean and unmarked. Browning to the page edges with a little spotting to the top edges. Previous owner's name in pen at the top of the front free endpape but the pages are otherwise clean and unmarked. The jacket has browning to the spine which has the volume number 44 in pen and a little chipping at the top and bottom. The front panel has two one inch closed tears to the top edge and there is a little chipping along the edges and at the corners of the jacket. Jacket design by Cecil W. Bacon.
