Cecil Bradbury was a man of strong character and singlemindedness who enlisted in the Royal Newfoundland Regiment as an under-aged private to fight overseas during World War I. After the war he worked for some years with the Hudson Bay Company in the high Arctic. It was not until the age of 93 that he recorded in any way those fascinating and eventful years, when he, along with other Newfoundlanders, heard the call of the Arctic.
