In 1849 in Cincinnati, twelve young men formed a club and named it The Literary Club. As of the date of this writing, it was still meeting once a week and presenting papers on various subjects. Over the years many famous people, from all walks of life, have been members, including Presidents Taft and Hayes, many Senators and Congressmen, and many authors. Famous guests have included Mark Twain and Ralph Waldo Emerson.
