Leslie Martin, che aveva 39 anni ai tempi del progetto, descrisse la struttura come "un uovo in una scatola", per dare l'idea del contrasto tra lo spazio curvo dell'auditorium con il circostante edificio e il rumore e le vibrazioni dell'adiacente viadotto ferroviario. Rnnovato prima nel 1964, ma lo spazio interno della sala da concerto era rimasto pressoché intatto, per cui in questa pubblicazione NON si vede ancora il discusso rifacimento del palco e delle pareti ricostruiti tra il 2005 e 2007 dagli architetti Allies and Morrison in forme più semplici e rettangolari nel tentativo di migliorarne l'acustica. Censito in 9 bibl.(specialistiche). Come nuovo.
