About the Author:

Editor L. Edward Purcell is the author, coauthor, or editor of 14 books, including Facts On File's Who Was Who in the American Revolution and Encyclopedia of Battles in North America, 1517 to 1916. Purcell holds history degrees from Simpson College and the University of Iowa and has taught history at several colleges and universities. He is currently a freelance book editor in Grinnell, Iowa.
