About the Author:
Editor L. Edward Purcell is the author, coauthor, or editor of 14 books, including Facts On File's Who Was Who in the American Revolution and Encyclopedia of Battles in North America, 1517 to 1916. Purcell holds history degrees from Simpson College and the University of Iowa and has taught history at several colleges and universities. He is currently a freelance book editor in Grinnell, Iowa.

RBB found the 1997 edition of this directory useful for a wide range of libraries but not essential in view of other available information. The revised edition brings the entry on Albert Gore through the 2000 elections and final outcome. The Chronology of Events is similarly updated. The new entry on Richard Cheney is drawn from secondary sources. With these few changes, acquisition is not essential. RBB
