The text, Ehrenstein's Tubutsch, is one of the icons of German literary expressionism. A very nice copy of an uncommon title in a good dustjacket. Kokoschka's illustrations of this well known expressionistic novella are brilliant. Uncommon thus. (We also have a copy of the limited edition, signed by the expressionistic artist Oskar Kokoschka.) Author's b/w portrait on frontispiece. Bookplate of the Boston Authors Club on inside front cover. Note in pencil indicates "gift of American Academy of Arts and Sciences 27 October 1966". Inscribed by the author on FEP: "To the Boston Authors' Club with the compliments of Charles Follen Adams, Boston, Mass. Feb. 21, 1913" A charming collection of humorous and endearing poems from the point of view of fictional German immigrant and family man Yawcob Strauss, written in Pennsylvania German dialect. The author was an American poet from Dorchester, MA who worked with Louis Prang's Boston publishing company. Very scarce in this edition, a real gem!.
