Original edition. Oblong Octavo, 8 color lithographs. A beautiful souvenir book of color lithographs of the famous Midway Plaisance section of the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 in Chicago, produced by Orcutt Co., a leading lithographer in Chicago. The Midway was the most popular area of the Exposition, as it showcased popular entertainments and reproduced scenes from the "primitive" and "exotic" countries of the Middle East. It is notable as the site of the first Ferris Wheel, and for the introduction of belly dance to American audiences as a salacious entertainment. A scarce and attractive souvenir book from this important and influential Exposition. Very Good; covers creased and smudged around edges, corners bumped rubbed and chipped, interiors Very Good 3-Hole Punched Stiff Color Covers, tied with red cord.
