Illustrated Wrappers. Condition: Collectible-Very Good. 23-page booklet provides each day's schedule of events. An additional feature is an article titled "No Man Like Jim" by W. H. Hutchinson. The article is about the life and experiences of James P. Beckwourth, mountain man. In 1859 he took his last saddle ride west to Denver to take on a new job. At sixty-odd years of age he was closing out one phase of his life. "He shepherded the wagons up deep-rutted tracks along the Platte that followed the trail he had helped blaze almost forty years before when he and the west were young." ".the mulatto mountain man, the most pungent of all that doughty breed who planted the American flag west of the Rockies and kept it there with the barrels of their Hawken rifles." " 'The Life and Times of James P. Beckwourth,' published by Harper & Brothers in 1856, was a better dime novel than most that came later in Beadles Library". Includes merchant advertising.

This postcard shows a view looking straight through the tunnel with its iconic five arched windows visible to the left. The tunnel was designed by John Arthur Elliot and was completed in 1915. Elliot's idea for the tunnel was inspired by a similar one near Lake Lucerne, Switzerland. The tunnel was open to vehicles until the 1950s, but in 1966, it was demolished when Interstate 84 was constructed to accommodate more vehicle traffic. Currently, the Oregon Department of Transportation is considering a plan to recreate the tunnel as part of an effort to restore the historic Columbia River Highway.

A Near Fine copy. This postcard shows a statue of Ezra Meeker in Pioneer Park, Puyallup, Washington. The statue was dedicated in 1926. Ezra Meeker (1830-1928) was an American pioneer who used the Oregon Trail to travel west from Iowa to the Oregon Territory. Meeker and his party reached Portland, Oregon in 1852. Meeker and his wife, Eliza Jane Sumner, eventually settled in Puyallup, Washington. Meeker lived a storied and eventful life; in addition to completing the Oregon Trail, Meeker also helped found the town of Puyallup, served as Puyallup's first mayor, traveled throughout the Pacific Northwest and into Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush, and retraced the steps he had taken on the Oregon Trail as part of a mission to preserve the historic trail. It is for this mission that Meeker is perhaps best remembered. By the early 1900s, many parts of the Oregon Trail and surrounding areas had been developed and Meeker feared that the trail and the pioneers who had traveled it would be forgotten. As a main focus of his plan, Meeker placed historical monuments along the trail. He also insisted on using his original means of travel, ox-drawn wagon. Meeker was in his seventies when he undertook this journey in 1906 traveling back east to Iowa and beyond to Washington, D.C. He received much publicity, as he had intended, and got to meet President Theodore Roosevelt in D.C. Meeker finished his journey in 1908 when he returned to Seattle. Just a couple years later, Meeker retraced the Oregon Trail yet again between 1910 and 1912 by ox-wagon. With the advent of new modes of transportation, Meeker even got to fly over the trail's route via plane.
