The expanded second edition of this title contains much more material than the first edition, which substantially reproduced the author's Encyclopedia Britannica entry on "Inland navigation". Stevenson was a well-regarded Scottish civil engineer who was a recognized authority on waterway improvement and other marine engineering matters. Fair; several signatures loose, front hinge torn at bottom, some page edges chipped, but contents complete and most pages clean.
