Later institutional bookplate on front pastedown, contemporary lithographed gift inscription tipped onto front free endpaper. Light toning and occasional dust soiling internally. About very good. Untrimmed. A history of Charleston, South Carolina, from its founding, published in celebration of the centennial of the city's incorporation in 1783. Contains numerous plates of historical signatures and document facsimiles, as well as a number of well-executed maps of the region. With a lithographed compliment card of the Mayor at the time, William A. Courtenay, who wrote the preface, tipped in.
