Paper. Condition: Collectible-Very Good. First Edition. Official invitation for U. S. Army Colonel Robert S. Offley and his wife to attend a reception in the White House on February 11, 1931.Col. Robert Sanford Offley served in the U. S. Army in the Spanish-American War during which he was decorated for bravery. After the war he served as Governor of Mindoro Island in the Philippines. Offley retired from the army in 1932, and his invitation to the White House reception may have been in anticipation of his impending retirement. The official invitation apparently was printed by a Washington, DC printer named Andrews, whose blindstamp appears on the verso of the envelope beneath the flap. Both the invitation and the envelope are in very good condition, with only minor discoloration. Size: 4 5/8" X 5 5/8". Manuscript.

Condition: Near Fine. 1 typed letter, signed by President Herbert Hoover, on his personal stationery. Thanking Mrs. Joseph W. Jones of Bristol, Tennessee, who had sent a $10 donation to the Boys' Clubs of America in response to Hoover's appeal in the organization's behalf. Herbert Hoover (1874-1964) served as the 31st president of the United States from 1929 to 1933. After leaving the presidency, he and his wife had lived at Palo Alto, California. Following her death in 1944 he relocated to New York City; the address on this letter is 420 Lexington Ave., NYC. In Near Fine Condition: two horizontal folds; light additional creasing; clean and solid.

No Binding. Condition: Very Good. Thirty-first President of the United States Herbert Hoover (1874-1964) signed this brief note to an admirer on August 19, 1933 [several months after leaving office]. The message reads: "I wish to thank you for your friendly note of birthday greeting. It was thoughtful of you to remember my birthday, and I want you to know that I appreciate it." Hoover s presidency is remembered for the beginning of the Great Depression, with the stock market crash occurring only eight months into his first year. He served one term, losing the presidency to Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the election of 1932. Typed on a 10 3/8" x 7 1/4" sheet of Hoover's personal stationery. Condition: Fold lines, mounting remnants on verso, otherwise very good condition with a large, bold signature. Signed by Author(s).

C.), 1.02.1932, to Dr Abraham Jablons (NYC American Legion Post) - Hoover sends "cordial greetings in connection with the annual dinner" to the Disabled Veterans, signed (as President) in dark ink "Herbert Hoover", attractively mounted (removable) for display with a photograph, shows the 31st President of the United States in a half length portrait (altogether 16,5 x 11,75 inch), with a central horizontal letter fold, browning, two puncher holes to the upper edge, and a tear to the upper left corner (not affecting text) - in nearly fine condition. "My dear Dr. Jablons: Please convey to the Grand Street Boys and their guests, the Disabled Veterans of the World War of the metropolitan area of New York, my cordial greetings in connection with the annual dinner. The occasion reflects the gratitude which all citizens will feel for all time for their unselfish service to the country. Yours faithfully, Herbert Hoover".
