Part of a larger series produced by Hakanson for publicity purposes for the Hanna Theatre of Cleveland, Ohio. A number of his photographs were devoted to Katherine Cornell; this is from a production, entitled: "Katherine Cornell 'Herod and Mariamne' An Adaptation by Clemence Dane with Fritz Kortner, Florence Reed, McKay Morris, Kent Smith. "Dear John- You should see this apt--really a lovely one with view of Detroit river- (I won't mention the fact that it looks like "Great Expectations" wedding cake-flowers-all wilted & crumbled-but if Barbara Baxley [?] has to leave [?] come return [?] -us- it's better for one to know more-) Anyhow the weather was a problem here too-dense fog-cold rain- snow- We are doing beautifully [?] here- Standing room last night- & I understand next week is even better- however- the Cleveland audience seemed faster [?] to me- I'm delighted they've liked the show in both cities- wouldn't it be nice if Chicago turned out nicely- We miss you- Love [signed] Imogen [with heart drawing with pointing arrow] Happy Valentine". "Dear Jon: So very many thanks for the marvelous way you took care of me during the four weeks we were in Detroit. I can't tell you how impressed I am with the easy smooth way in which you handle your very complicated affairs and the consideration that you show for artists, so-called. I'm sorry that the film festival idea didn't work out, but maybe at a later date. Will you be coming to Baltimore at all?
