About this title
TRYST WITH DESTINY is a love story of Murad who is separated from his wife, Amber, and his children during the forced and hurried partition of India and Pakistan in 1947. About the Author:Roma Dhingra is a writer and an educator. She was born in New Delhi, India. Her parents moved to New Delhi from Lahore in 1946 when they heard of the possibility of a partition of India when the British left the country. After the India and Pakistan partition in 1947, many of her relatives fled from Lahore to find themselves homeless in New Delhi. Her parents invited the relatives to stay with them for months until they could find a place to live. Roma thought it was normal to always have many people living in their home. She enjoyed living with her large extended family. At the time she never realized the turmoil and devastation caused by the partition. Communities that had coexisted for centuries turned against each other, resulting in mass killings, abductions, sexual violence, and bodily mutilations. At the Writers’ Workshop she was encouraged to write about this chaotic time. Her story is based on actual stories told to her by her parents and relatives and historical research.
