About this title
MORE SONGS FROM THE JAPJI [Volume Two; sequel to The JAPJI: Volume One] Writers Workshop Calcutta, 1969. A selection from 38 songs originally composed in Punjabi by Guru Nanak (1469-1539), founder of the Sikh religion: Song 3 in Punjabi & word-for-word translation; Songs 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 20, 23, 31, 33, & 34. This selection has been "transcreated" by the poet P. Lal; it forms a sequel to his JAPJI: Volume One. Lal: "Some songs (Nos. 6, 14, 15) have been re-translated, to give readers an idea of how approaches to the same text may differ at different times of a transcreator's understanding of the meaning."
