About this title
Relates the troubles of the Crocker family when Baby Crocker starts teething and chews everything in sight
From School Library Journal:Kindergarten-Grade 2-- It's teething time for Baby Crocker, who is making life miserable for the rest of his crocodile family. One day his indiscriminate chewing includes the mooring rope on the Crockers' houseboat. With only Baby Crocker for a crew, the boat drifts towards the dreaded Fatal Falls. It takes Gran on her windsurfer to save the day, and during the ensuing celebration, Baby Crocker's smile reveals a brand new tooth. The weak text does little to enhance the hackneyed plot, and several Briticisms may be confusing to young readers. The cartoon illustrations, while full of sprightly good humor, are too cluttered to enhance the story effectively. Ballooned comments add nothing to the story and only contribute to the visual confusion. Crocodiles more worthy of attention can be found in dePaola's "Bill and Pete" books (Putnam), Waber's "Lyle" series (Houghton), and Duvoisin's Crocus (Knopf, 1977; o.p.). --Lori A.
