Four geography professors collaborated on Atlas of American Politics, which examines U.S. government and politics at the congesssional district, state, and national levels from a combined historical, geographical, and political perspective. More than 200 maps from a variety of government and private sources show the relationship between the nation's geography and its political life. Topics include presidential elections, party affiliation, votes on significant legislation, voter turnout, participation in politics by women and minorities, foreign aid, trade, health, education, crime, and the environment. Visual learners will be attracted by the maps, while the accompanying text provides details and numbers as well as a historical context. Even though much of the information is available elsewhere (e.g., U.S. Census Bureau, National Center for Health Statistics), this book provides a unique look at U.S. politics during the last 40 years and will be useful to students and researchers from the high-school level up.
