In the dark, dark tunnel you will...(turn half page) sscreeam!" The ride takes readers over a loathsome pit, slimy swamp, scary forest, gruesome graveyard, haunted chapel, to a dark, dark crypt where they find an evil-looking mummy with green creatures flying out at them. Each sentence is accompanied by a slightly different shaped monster that grows in size when the half page is turned. The overall look is dark with shades of green, brown, and black predominating, but the creatures are brightly colored. The total impact is not as taut as versions of Jill Bennett's Teeny Tiny (Putnam, 1986) or Ruth Brown's A Dark Dark Tale (Dial, 1981), but story-time listeners will love to shriek and squeal and be a little scared.
