BOOK EXCERPT
I have never owned a yellow car with black trim nor have I ever had a running meter on my dashboard. Nevertheless, I still spend a great deal of time feeling like a taxi service.
This was especially true when my wife and I were fostering children.
Over the years, we have fostered twenty-seven children and have had as many as ten at one time (nine foster children and our own son). Now, I love kids, but that's a lot!
You can imagine that with ten kids, ages five to thirteen, the Parent Taxi Co. was continually in service. Our brownish-grey Astro van took kids to therapy, counseling, school, plays, parks, pools, birthday parties, sporting events, fishing trips, church, children's club, youth group, and much, much, much, much more!
As owner-operator of this Parent Taxi Co. I can tell you that there weren't a whole lot of thank you's left behind by the passengers. But they did leave behind a whole lot of crumbs, ripped papers, pencils, portable video game cartridges, school books, and gooey substances!
Have you been there? If you are reading this book as a parent, then I am sure the answer is a resounding "YES! Preach it, Mark!"
It seems that it is part of a parent's lot in life to be the owner-operator of a chauffeur service, as we are obliged to bring our children to place to place to place...to place
The most important place to bring our children, however, is to Jesus.
We must indeed bring them to Jesus through trips to church, to youth group, and to kids' club, but that is not all. We must also bring them to Jesus through daily devotions in our home, dinner time prayers, night time talks, etc.
We must be constantly finding ways to bring our children to Jesus so that they can experience His presence, His love, His truth, and His transforming power.
We see this repeatedly in the Gospels, as parents were continually bringing their children to Jesus in order to receive His touch and blessing
