From Booklist:
Writer Moore created "science hero" Tom Strong as an updated version of bygone characters like Doc Savage. Raised on a remote island as an experiment to achieve physical and mental perfection and superhuman longevity, Strong, with the aid of wife Dahlua, daughter Tesla, robot manservant Pneuman, and talking ape King Solomon, defends the world from threats ranging from costumed criminals to intergalactic invasions. The highlight of the fourth collection of his eponymous comic book is Moore's extended take on the parallel-worlds story, in which a version of Tom's deceased mother travels from an alternative universe to seek his help in righting a catastrophic series of events she has set in motion; this delightfully convoluted plotline features cameos by alternate versions of heroes from Moore's other America's Best Comics titles. In other stories by other writers (supervised by Moore), Tom returns to the moon (his first visit there was in 1949) and reunites with a former girlfriend villainously put in suspended animation 70 years ago.
