In order to make it possible to include practically all the words of the most extensive unabridged dictionary within the compass of a convenient single volume, a system of grouping has been adopted which in nowise detracts from the fullest representation of the spelling and pronunciation of the words, and which, by bringing derivative and related words all under the eye at once, greatly speeds the finding of the word desired. In one of the unabridged dictionaries, the word air, with its related words, covers over ten columns, or nearly four pages. By grouping, these words are brought under the eye at one glance.
