About the Author:
Fascinated from an early age by the Holocaust, J. Michael Dolan has used his talents as a historian and novelist to bring the heroic if little-known story he sets forth in Trumpets to life. A traveler in his youth, he has lived in many places, some of them exotic, but recently moved outside of Austin, Texas both to be near his family and because it is a magnet of a city for the freethinking young-- or in his case, the young at heart. Taking a break from the horrors of the Holocaust but not the fertile ground of Jewish history, he is currently working on a novel set in the Roman-occupied Palestine of the 1st century A.D.
Review:
The Trumpets of Jericho is a long journey of a book, but Dolan deftly uses narrative, dialogue, and the setting of the Nazi death camp Auschwitz in all its horrific detail to hasten the reader to its unexpectedly upbeat conclusion. Powerful... inspiring... painstakingly researched. An emotional roller coaster of a novel... Strongly recommended for those seeking to understand the extremes of good and evil mankind is heir to.

Imagine the Marquis de Sade writing in collaboration with Leon Uris and you have The Trumpets of Jericho. Nightmarish yet moving, it makes the heart weep and sing all at once.

Complex... compelling... chilling. Though a sweeping epic of a novel told in multiple points of view, it never stumbles when it comes to juggling the diverse thoughts and actions of its many characters. Trumpets is a significant book in that... it is the first to make pertinent a little-known but crucial act of rebellion at Auschwitz. For that alone it is a valuable contribution to not only the literature of the Holocaust but historical fiction in general.

An emotional and historical tsunami of a novel seamlessly written by a brilliant author devoted to giving forgotten heroes a voice. Make no mistake: Dolan is the next Uris!
---Raja-Rao Literary Endowment
The author's attention to detail, diligence of research, and powerful character portrayals make this first-ever book on the heroic 1944 Jewish uprising at Auschwitz a riveting read for not only experts on the Holocaust but those new to it.

Roza Robota. Chances are you do not recognize that name. After reading this incredible historical novel, however, it and others will be ingrained in your memory as you wonder how on earth you've never heard of them before...
Dolan's research is prodigious, as is his talent for making the tears fall (and the skin crawl) in describing the waking nightmare that was Auschwitz... At the same time, the author puts to paper the highest moral values we as humans can have, making this a book more about hope than horror.
You owe it to yourself not to pass The Trumpets of Jericho by. Not only does it bring one of the great if little-known stories of the Holocaust to life, it shows the human spirit as a very real and concrete entity that in the end even the worst evil imaginable couldn't defeat.
