About the Author:

Joan Z. Calder, author, horticulturist, and garden designer, manages the campus greenhouse at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she also nurtures a butterfly garden. She grew up learning about gardening on a dairy farm in Cato, Wisconsin. Calder travels the U.S. to educate the public about monarch migration and the importance of conserving their habitat. The author currently resides in Santa Barbara, California, with her husband, John, and many caterpillars.
