This book parallels the history of settlers to Plymouth Massachusetts, as many settlers in Old Dartmouth migrated to Dartmouth from Plymouth, MA to seek religious freedom. An entire chapter is devoted to the New Bedford and New England Whaling industry, and their contributions to the modernization of the United States. About the Author:

Kathleen Ryan Comiskey Roberts is a native of Dartmouth, MA. From the time she was in the third grade she knew she wanted to be a teacher. She received a bachelor's degree from Framingham State University and a master's degree from Boston University. Her teaching career spanned 47 years in Milton, VT, Dartmouth, and Raynham, MA public schools. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Massachusetts Teachers Association's Human and Civil Rights Awards; the National Education Association-Retired's Distinguished Award; the Salem State University Friend of Education Award; and the Distinguished Service Award from the Framingham State University Alumni Association. She believes strongly that a person should give back to their community. After her retirement, she became an active volunteer in the Raynham Public Schools and several other community and civic organizations in Raynham, including serving as the co-chair of Raynham's 275th anniversary celebration. In 1993, the Town of Raynham dedicated its annual report to Mrs. Roberts and she was named Raynham Citizen of the Year in 2003.
