The wondrous, mischievous and perceptive nature of children are preserved in this spirited collection of poems. Robert W. Kurkela sensitively captures moments ranging from learning to brush teeth and tie shoes to coping with sickness and loss. About the Author:
Robert W. Kurkela is the youngest in a family of five boys. Upon his birth, his father sent a telegram to Robert s grandparents, who were vacationing in Europe, It stated: the basketball team is complete. Though he does have a zealous passion for the New York Yankees, Robert never pursued an athletic career. Instead, his Little League days gave way to a love of words. Robert started writing poetry as a teenager. He lives in New York State with his wife, Lisa, and daughters, Cassidy and Rachel.
Review:
Although written from a child's perspective, the poetry is by Robert W. Kurkela, an adult, wonderfully and uniquely enhanced with the illustrations of his preschool daughter Cassidy. Lilies On The Moon is a collection of poetry as highly recommended for parents as it is for children. Bugs: Bugs abound in bed/Bugs are in my head/I shall not sleep then,/I'll stay up late again.//Mom and Dad show dismay/They've had a long day/They haven't any smiles/I'll make them stay awhile.//They won't watch the time/As I talk and I rhyme/Soon they'll laugh with me/In nighttime harmony.//Bugs about in bed/So I've already said/They don't stop biting/Until I stop writing. --Midwest Book Review

This book, a collection of poems from a father accompanied by his daughter's artwork is wonderful-the artwork plays perfectly off the poems, creating a beautiful package that the author's family will most certainly cherish for generations to come. There are a few styles of poems and all of them have a subtle deeper heartbeat than what appears at first. Poems like 'Bugs' and 'Words, Pranks and Charms' have a magic about them that children are sure to love and parents will enjoy reading to them. --Writer's Digest

I have loved poetry since I was a child so "Lilies on the Moon" is right up my alley. Robert's poems are delightfully written from a child's point of view and with a wonderful spirit of play. Cassidy's sprightly colored handpainting matches each one perfectly. They actually brought back many fond memories, which warmed my heart and kept me smiling from beginning to end. I also found it a great way to introduce my grandchildren to poetry and it is easy enough for them to read too! --Nicole Wheldon, Author of 'The 1,2,3 Bees'
