Something is stolen in Philadelphia that so little value, the theft is never suspected. Today, sixty years later, it is worth more than 16 million dollars.
1953
On November 24th, 6:22pm, an F89C is scrambled from Kincheloe Air Force Base with two USAF officers on board. It's mission: to pursue an unidentified flying object and make contact. The chase leads the jet to a point approximately 160 miles northwest of Sault Sainte Marie, over Lake Superior. Shown on a radar screen at Truax Air Force Base, the two blips merge together and disappear. The jet and officers are never found.
1959
On February 22nd, 5:05pm, a Captain flying his personal Piper Supercruiser en route to Kincheloe Air Force Base disappears. His disappearance results in the largest manhunt in Michigan history to that date. Neither the plane nor the pilot is ever seen again.
Present Day
Off the coast of Michigan's Upper Peninsula exists an island so tranquil, it is known as the Gem of the Huron, so peaceful, that islanders rarely lock their doors. In the small town seclusion of Drummond Island, a local resident is the victim of a brutal murder.

The black and white four-by-five told the story.
The candid shot of the soldiers had been taken by a journalist trying to capture the quieter moments of the Korean War. The men appeared homesick, scared, and weary. One of them had just told the group a story from home and they were all caught smiling or laughing. It was a rare moment for them, and yet, it was defining. The lost innocence was etched around their eyes and showed in their faces. Their manner reflected the dark lessons they had learned while defending a nation. In the shadows of war, they had become brothers far closer than those of birth. Placed in the same squadron, they had leaned on each other, trusted each other. They were inseparable or so they had thought. Three days after the picture was taken, the group lost half of its members. Eight had become four.
Turning the picture over in his hands, he couldn’t help but wonder why he hadn’t been among those who were killed. After all, he was the only one who deserved to die. His betrayal was total. Even worse, he couldn’t bring himself to confess the truth. He just waited for the day when someone would find out what he had done. He knew judgment would come.
He was right.
