The adventures of a medical volunteer on a remote South Pacific island, written with touches of self-depreciating humor and a warm and engaging writing style. Pennie, and not James Herriot, writes about the most fascinating creatures of all: people - Canadians, Americans, Australians, and aboriginals in an exotic setting.

About the Author:
Author Ross Pennie spent his early childhood on the prairies of Southrn Alberta and attended high school in the shadow of the Peace Tower in Ottawa.

On graduating from medical school at Queen's Unversity in Kingston, Ontario, he set off for the South Pacific, his heart afire with the stories of Robinson Crusoe, Captain Cook and Mutiny on the Bounty.

Now an internationally recognized specialist in Paediatrics and Infectious Diseases, Pennie has worked as a medical practitioner, educator and researcher in Canada, the United States, St. Lucia, Brazil, Angola and Malaysia.

The Unforgiving Tides recounts his experiences as a young medical volunteer in Papua New Guinea where his romantic notions of the South Pacific are soon dashed.

Pennie's creative writing has won several prestigious awards. The author is currently a professor at McMaster University, Hamlton, and a practicing physician at Brant Community Health System at Brantford, Ontario.

Review:
A compelling story that goes straight to the heart. In New Guinea, Pennie encounters magic and so will his readers. -- Cathy Vasas-Brown, author, Every Wickedness & Some Reason in Madness

An honest, compelling tale of life, death, and the mystery of all that lies in between. -- Ray Robertson, author, Mental Hygiene: Essays on writers and writing

Reminiscent of James Herriot - except Pennie examines the most intriguing creatures of all: fellow humans on a remote, exotic island. -- Michael B. Davie, author, Why Everybody Hates Toronto
