Offer Me a Flower is a spiritual love story. In this tale of romance, intrigue, and adventure, Luce, a Tucson, Arizona based counselor, embarks on a quest for the "immortal nectar." The story begins as Luce, age five, encounters first a wolf, then "the Mother," while walking down a snowy trail near her mountain cabin in Pine Hills, California. At age 27, after a wild search through the Chiricahua Mountains of Arizona, Luce meets the Mother again. With the Mother as her spiritual guide, she is drawn into darkness--a world of magic, sorcery, terror, and fear--then into events of mythic proportion with her boyfriend, Sam. The Mother's teachings are woven into the tale in messages on the nature of love, suffering, conflict, choice, and the soul.

Review:
The genre of visionary fiction is still so fresh as to allow authors to chart a path for others to follow. The grandfather of visionary fiction, The Celestine Prophecy, is one such work; Savitri L. Bess's Offer Me a Flower may be another. The heroine, Luce, is an Arizona-based student who becomes a counselor; in attempting to find herself, she helps others find themselves. Chased by a stalker in her dreams and in reality, Luce roams the mountains and arroyos surrounding Tucson in search of the Mother and personal healing. Excitement reigns high as she encounters visions, shamans, wild animals, and dangerous men in jungles, deserts, and her own living room. At various intervals throughout the quest, the Mother unexpectedly manifests to teach Luce about life, love, and the eternal. The romantic subplot is a blueprint for how and how not to conduct oneself in relationship. Avoiding the gooey pit of New Age truism, this loving novel serves not only as a moral guiding light for young adults, it also serves up healthy helpings of inspiration and entertainment. --P.
