This is a practical,, workable, down-to-earth guide for parents on how to raise teens. The 154 page soft-cover volume is crammed full of useful tools and advise. "How To Live With Your Teenager - Vol. I" teaches parents specific parenting skills.

This book breaks new ground in several major areas. It pioneers the idea that parenting skills for adolescence can be taught and learned. Amongst the skills the book teaches are:

Understanding how to live amicably with teenagers--knowing the difference between praise and criticism--and how to use both effectively.

Knowing the secrets of "time and touch"--and how to communicate love.

Problem-solving techniques that allow a family to solve problems without aggravation.

How to communicate effectively within the home--and solve problems.

What is normal teenage behavior--and how to recognize it.

Body language and how to communicate--and how to communicate positively with teens.

The difference between authority and control--and when to use it.

How to recognize anger in the parent--and how parents can deal with anger constructively.

Why teens blow up--out of proportion--and how to cool off family situations and avoid fighting.

Problem-solving skills that solve family conflicts.

From the Author:
You can take a course in cooking, gardening, playing tennis, racquet ball, golf or any foreign language and zillions of different skills. There is virtually no place to go to learn how to parent a teenager which is one of the most difficult challenges on this planet. I wrote "How to Live With Your Teenager - Vol. I - A Survivor's Handbook for Parents" to teach parents basic skills in parenting in the 1990's. Immediately after you're done reading the
chapter, you'll be able to put these skills into practice with your family.
In the last 25 years my psychotherapy practice has specialized in children, teens and families. Many families brought their teens to counseling. Parents don't have the skills to parent teens in the 1990's. Most of us learn our parenting skills from our own parent. When our own parents parented us, we didn't have the common everyday prevalence of drugs, the sexual revolution and
large amounts of divorced families and single-parent families. I'm not suggesting that divorce and single-parent families always have problems. What I am saying is divorced and single-parent families put a lot of pressure on the custodial parent. If we don't have the skills to parent, then we are running on empty. My own parents lacked skills in parenting. Because of that my own childhood and adolescence years were filled with unhappiness and frustration. My fondest hope is that the parenting skills in this book will be useful to you and that you can put them into practice immediately upon finishing each chapter. This book has sold over 250,000 copies and it warms my heart to continue to get letters from parents and families thanking us for making the book available. This book is for every family of a 6-year-old to a 19-year-old.
