Having reached the impressive age of 87, author Jacob has written her first book. She incorporates her memories, thoughts on aging, and philosophy of life. Readers expecting any profound thoughts because the author is an octogenarian will be disappointed. Jacob's suggestions for successful living are sound but commonplace, giving the impression that she has led a somewhat sheltered life. In the third section of the book, however, the author uses her age to advantage. Jacob's descriptions of life in Louisville, Kentucky some 80 years ago are charmingly nostalgic. For the most part, however, this book does not compare favorably with others such as Art Linkletter's Old Age Is Not for Sissies ( LJ 1/88) or Eda LeShan's It's Better To Be Over the Hill Than Under It (Newmarket Pr., 1990). A marginal purchase.
