Our observations are based on game concepts that were predominant at the time this book was published. The game has, of course, changed. Certain aspects of modern soccer are not addressed. In its fundamentals, however, the book remains essentially correct and relevant. It will provide coaches, trainers, and players with valuable advice for practical soccer training.
Coaches and instructors are given useful training tips and are provided with an extensive pool of drills and exercises that will strengthen individual training as a major factor in the training process. The many simple diagrams are very helpful and effective.
The publication of this first English edition is welcomed because of its usefulness in the development of our athletes. We wish success to all the coaches and instructors in the further development of young soccer players capable of increasing the standing of soccer through excellent performance.

We have paid special attention to the work of our best coaches in the top league teams, as well as to the experiences that we have gained in practical training the German Institute of Physical Education (Deutsche Hochschle fur Korper Kultur). Both volumes are mainly written for enhancing the versatility of training practice, but they also deal with certain very specific and fundamental factors in training practice, such as, the setup of training sessions and how they should be carried out in the competitive season." ---- from the Foreword (Introduction).
