Book Description Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+. Maps by John Mitchell. (illustrator). First Edition. 276 pp, 9 3/16" H. B&w photographs, maps. "(C)overs the Regiment in action in Palestine, India, Malaya, Trieste and Cyprus, as well as when soldiering in Egypt, Greece, BAOR and at home. A complete chapter is devoted to the activities of the Suffolk and Cambridgeshire Territorial battalions. Each chapter describes a tour of duty of one battalion in a particular posting and is divided into two parts: the first paints a general picture of the role of the battalion showing why it was there and what it was like to be there with some mention of events of note. The second part of the chapter contains a detailed chonological account of the experiences of the battalion. In Malaya the Regiment won for itself between 1949 and 1953 a reputation unequalled throughout the whole 12-year Emergency there by any other British battalion. While the chapter devoted to Malaya provides the core of the book the other chapters reveal a continous thread of devotion to duty and the author is not exaggerating when he speaks in his preface of 'a quiet, grim determination in the face of extremely hostile conditions' to do a worthwhile job as being characteristic of the Suffolk Regiment until the very end." Very light browning to the text block edges. Dust jacket has a small ghost sticker mark on the inside of the front flap, very light edge and spine wrinkling, minor rubbing on the panels. Not Signed.
