Kopplin collection of lantern slides, and photos from other sources, McLuhan presents 150 images of the Hopi, Navajo, Rio Grande, and western Pueblo Indians. The Santa Fe Railway used these images in its advertising to entice tourists to travel west on the train. The photographers and artists portrayed the Indians as the railroad dictated, creating the stylized myth of the noble savage rather than recording the true culture.
