This slim novel may be the perfect stocking-stuffer for rabid golf fans. Millionaire entrepreneur Hubert J. Carnes buys yet another company, Squeeze Ltd., an high-tech firm making advanced weaponry and electronic toys. Aside from corporate profits, Carnes's other obsession is golf and the Quincetree Golf Club. Quincetree is the most exclusive and stuffy club in the country, founded and run by the Twitchell family. If Carnes can beat the incumbent Twitchell chairman in a golf game he, Carnes, will become chairman. Visions of "the richest purse in golfdom," TV coverage and "improving" the use of Quincetree land inspire Carnes to have the whiz-kid founders of Squeeze develop an electronic system to help his golf game. The match sees Carnes four strokes up after nine holes, but the prickly conscience of Carnes's Scots caddy sends things agley and the ending is a surprise.
