PreSchool-Grade 1-The text for this picture book comes from the lyrics of a song from Rodgers and Hammerstein's 1957 musical Cinderella. It's an ode to daydreaming in which a young heroine (along with her dog) tells of all the things she is dreaming about. ("In my own little corner,/In my own little chair,/I can be whatever I want to be." She can be a young Norweigian princess, a milk maid, and a huntress on an African safari who has forgotten her gun. Her imaginings are filled with charm and are well illustrated with much humor. The art is strong and bold, done in a simple and broad style that uses colored pens and chalk, making much use of dramatic colors such as greens, burgundys, pinks, and blues. Some of the roles (such as the prima donna in Milan) might sail right over the heads of the intended audience, but the pictures carry the day.
